Is the Home Care Package program the same as Support at Home?

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government's Home Care Package (HCP) program was replaced by the new Support at Home (SAH) program. Existing HCP recipients transitioned across automatically. Both programs allow your provider to fund up to 70% of the cost of prepared meal delivery — you only contribute around 30%.

Can I use my Home Care Package funds on Sona's Kitchen meals?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you have a Level 1–4 Home Care Package (now a Support at Home plan) and your support plan includes meal preparation and delivery (SERV-0007), your provider can fund 70% of each Sona's Kitchen order. You pay just the 30% co-contribution at checkout.

How much will I actually pay per meal?

Accepted Answer

A standard single-serve curry with rice is $12.90. Your share is roughly $3.87 per meal — the remaining $9.03 is invoiced directly to your Support at Home provider. Delivery is included in the 70% government-funded portion, so there are no out-of-pocket delivery costs on eligible orders.

Which HCP / SAH providers do you invoice?

Accepted Answer

We invoice any registered Support at Home provider in Australia, including Australian Unity, BaptistCare, Uniting, Bolton Clarke, Catholic Healthcare, mecwacare, KinCare, Five Good Friends and 500+ others. If your provider isn't already onboarded, our SAH team will reach out to set it up — usually within 2 business days.

Question 5

Do you need a referral from my care manager?

Accepted Answer

No formal referral is required. You can register yourself using the form on our Support at Home page, and we'll coordinate the billing approval with your care manager. Care managers can also refer participants directly via our provider portal.

What's the difference between Home Care Package meals and Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels is a CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Program) service for people not yet on a package. Home Care Package / Support at Home meals are funded through your individual support plan and give you full menu choice across 100+ Halal-certified Indian dishes — chef-prepared, chilled and delivered Australia-wide.
